Just across Jaro Evangelical Church and Jaro Plaza is a German restaurant that makes your Bavarian dining experience authentic. The Bavarian cuisine (coming from Bavaria, a state in south-eastern part of Germany) is known for a wide variety of sausages, meat dishes and pasta.
Bavaria Restaurant Iloilo opens at 7:30AM to 12:00AM, located in Seminario Street. I was excited to see what lies inside! :) AAAAAND Today is a special day, Jessie's birthday! The reason why my blog post title is Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Jessie. Cheesy message later. HAHA!!!
I used to read Frank McCourt's award winning book called Angela's Ashes. The setting was in Ireland and I cannot count how many times he went/mentioned the word pub. And so when I saw the interiors, I immediately thought I was in a pub, based on how Frank described it in his book.
The place was dim and almost dark. I loved the rustic interior, the feeling of being away from the busy city streets and noise. It was full of wines preserved through ages. Some parts of the wall were hand painted and my favorite was the unicorn and the countryside.
We chose their German specialty drink called Spezi (Php60 per mug-like glass? HAHA!) Spezi is made of cola and orange soda. And if you want to make the best out of your German dining experience without drinking beer, I recommend you order this. But they also serve the local drinks and soda we have.
What we ordered:
1. Butcher's Platter (Php395)
This platter consists of pork knuckles, bacon, sausage and sauerkraut. If you want to taste what Bavaria is known for, try this dish full of meat. The salt-cured reddish pork knuckle is super tender and flavorful and traditionally served with sauerkraut (the white strips you see)- fermented sliced green cabbage.
2. Osso Bucco (Php295)
Plate consists of of shanks on tomato sauce with pasta and garlic. Osso Bucco means "hole in a bone". The reason why the meat marrow bone has a hole in the middle, well obviously. What we loved about the meat is the tenderness and you didn't even need to use your knife, but we did anyway. Nonsense.
3. Arrabiata (Php175)
A spicy pasta! We had Penne pasta with Arrabiata sauce- made from red chili pepper and tomato sauce. And don't forget the bread, we didn't eat.
4. Hungarian Sausage (Php 195)
Of course, the German cuisine will never be complete without the spicy sausages. We had Hungarian sausage served with paella (I ate this alone bwahahaha) and sauerkraut.
And that's it! :) I don't want to post our photo, because people might come running after Jessie and Dhan for an autograph tomorrow, justkiddingguyssss.
