Red Velvet Sunday

Guess what? I finally remembered I still have a blog! My last blog post dated last May, although I was able to update my Tumblr blog about my whitewater rafting experience last July. Its been a month since I was deployed here in CdO and I will never run out of beautiful words to say about this city. The city is full of great restaurants and cafe and I always end up undecided as to where I want to eat.

After going to church earlier, I was suppose to play frisbee the whole afternoon (until night) but this "girl thing" ruined my planned activity. So I ended up craving for something sweet. I immediately remembered Cecil's Snack Inn which was just three blocks away from my dorm along Corrales Hayes Street. I read about the reviews of each cafe/resto here in CdO before checking out the place for myself. Cecil's Durian Pie was once awarded by the Philippine Daily Inquirer as one of the best desserts in the Philippines. But heck, my taste buds are not into durian so I chose a different one. I wasn't really "gluttonously" hungry, I just wanted to eat something sweet so I chose a piece of red velvet cake (PhP80) and this usual Four Seasons Juice Drink.
It was a relaxing moment, just in time to read my current favorite- The Rule of Four. This book is an awesome find, when I saw this at Booksale (Robinson's Cagayan de Oro) for only PhP30, I felt like I found a piece of diamond in the sea of sand. I read the book when I was in high school and its about a man's obsession with Hypnerotomachia poliphili. The Rule of Four was usually compared to Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code by critics. And yes, the book's cover complimented the red velvet cake.

Time flies so fast :( I just realize, I only have two weekends left here in Cagayan de Oro. I am deeply falling in love with this city and I don't mind staying for good. A month ago, I was new to this city, my first time in Mindanao to be exact, but after some time, I felt like I belong to this place as well. The people are just so lovely. What I will miss about this place is the "balanced life" that I had, how God used this city to put every aspect of my life together. I had friends at church, work, sports and dorm. Everybody will always give you a smile when you see each other at the mall even though you were not formally introduced. My spiritual life was renewed and I remember how hungry and thirsty I was for His word when I was first invited to church. Let me quote Barbie Almalbis when she said "it does not matter how far you feel you are away from God, He will reach you". And that's what He exactly did during my stay here in CdO. I remembered, my co-intern and I were just sitting in the bus and a co-worker sat with us, until our conversation ended about my faith and she invited me to church. The night before that, my mom was telling me to find a church here in CdO because when I stayed in Manila, I never had the time to find one.

Now that my Mindanao adventure will end in weeks, I do hope, everyone I met will still remember me. I am beyond grateful for the acceptance and friendship they shared with me. <3

  1. I encountered Cecil's in Limketkai. Their extra moist chocolate cake looks very ordinary but tastes heavenly. I am drooling now just thinking about it.

I also have that book, The Rule of Four, but never got past 3 chapters... I think I should try and read it again.

    1. Cecil's won a couple of awards for their cakes I guess. I wanna try it again when I get the chance of going back to CdO in the near future. And do read The Rule of Four, it's a very good book. :)
